It is high time now for Indians as #MeToo movement has derailed from its purpose. Now #MeToo has been used for false rape accusations. Indian laws are abused to arrest individuals and extort money to release free.
In recent case of Actor Singer Karan Oberoy shows gruelling consequences, wherein woman has schemed properly to put actor in judicial custody by filing FIR.
Actor Karan Oberoi started his TV journey with Mahesh Bhatt’s Swabhimaan, where he played Bobby and went on to star in shows like Saaya and Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi. He was also a member of A Band of Boys, which was formed in 2001.
On May 4, 2019, A complaint was lodged by the woman with the Oshiwara Police late and charges under the Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) were slapped against him.
The victim had alleged, “In January 2017, Oberoi had given her some coconut water to drink and after drinking it, she had started feeling dizzy. According to the woman he had forced himself on her and had made a video which he subsequently used to blackmail her. According to the woman she has already given Oberoi a Pukhraj, Manik stone, a head phone, a fridge and a Mac Book apart from cash that she alleged he used for paying his rent. During this entire time the woman said the actor kept requesting him to marry her however he kept avoiding.”
On 15th May, actor’s advocate has filed bail application in Dindoshi session court, Mumbai. Advocate Tiwari has clarified that FIR details mentioned by victim are absurd and doesn’t include date and time of all events. In his bail application, Oberoi insists that his relationship with the victim was consensual. Oberoi states that at no point he had told the victim that he intended to have any serious committed relationship. He has questioned why the FIR is completely silent on the woman continuing the relationship beyond January 2017, if she was allegedly drugged by him. He alleges that in fact it was she who tried to seduce him by sending her nude photographs and video.
