August 15: Its celebration is an insult to heroes.
India got independence from British on August 15th, 1947. Since that day, August 15th is celebrated as Independence day by patriotic Indians. When we were children 25 years back, we used to be very happy about Independence day. We used to feel proud about the heros and leaders, who fought for independence from British. At the age of 10 or 11, we used to read the autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi.
Little did we knew that we will grow up to see a day, when police in india will drive people to suicide with threats and extortion in police stations. We did not knew that one day, Indian police will insult, abuse, harass, threaten and extort from women. We did not knew that there will be a day, when there will be no justice in India.
Today, 40 lac arrests every year in India by police are either unnecessary or unjustified. A criminal is born the day an innocent is arrested. Is Indian Government led by Manmohan Singh or Home Minister P.Chidambaram has any accountability? They both are responsible for insulting, abusing and arresting of more than 1,23,000 women under section 498a in last 4 years.
On one hand Indian Government depends on young people for its high powered economy and yet treats them as sacrificial lambs in police stations and courts.
The judges in India are reluctant to declare their assets to public, where as every bureaucrat and ministers are supposed to do so. Is this democracy? Now, Govt wants to hide the asset details of the judges from the common people, in a democracy.
Democracy is: Government of the people, by the people and for the people.
Is the current Government in India truely democratic? Is India a free country, where there is so much police brutality?
No. Indian is not a free and not a democratic country. Just elections every 5 years, do not make a country democratic. Justice and

These celebrations are an insult to all the people, who gave their life for freedom.
SIFF members will be meeting at Shimla on 15th and 16th August to plan for intensifying agitation against hypocrisy, plice brutalities, injustice and family breaking by vested interests in India.
