BANGALORE: A man who was in a live-in relationship with a woman from Kolkata was arrested on charges of rape. The woman, 33, had come to the city in search of a job.
Prashanth C, 26, a resident of Vivekanandanagar near Katriguppe in South Bangalore, had promised to get her a job here. “The duo got friendly and Prashanth often visited her home in Manjunath Layout, Arekere, off Bannerghatta Road. They were in a live-in relationship for a year. Then she left the city to drop her eight-year-old daughter at her home town. She returned and insisted that Prashanth continue to live with her. However, he declined,” said a police officer.
Angered, the woman demanded Rs 10 lakh in compensation from him. “Prashanth, who’s fromAndhra Pradesh, works at a timber depot in the city. Irked by her demand, he started avoiding her, so she approached Hulimavu police three days ago. When the cops asked for some documents, she approached the police commissioner with a petition, which was referred to ACP (Mico Layout), Obalesh.
