SIFF Pune Team celebrates International Men’s Day in style
International Men’s Day is observed each year on 19th November, to celebrate achievements of men and raise awareness about the issues faced by men in the society. Sadly, not many people know about this occasion, and even of they do, they will either belittle this day or mock this day. This is due to internalized misandry in the system. So it is up to Men’s Rights Activists to spread awareness and remove the misandry from the system and people’s minds.
SIFF Pune team decided to spread awareness about International Men’s Day by organizing a fun event: A weekend outing to Mahabaleshwar. Over 25 activists participated in this event. The mission was to celebrate the Men’s Day weekend, enjoy a stress free outing and spread awareness about Men’s Day.
The team decided to distribute Gender Neutral coffee mugs to Khandala, Panchgani, Wai and Mahabaleshwar police stations on their way, to raise awareness about the lack of Gender Neutral provisions in Indian laws. These Gender Neutral coffee mugs are created to raise awareness about Men’s Day and to make unmarried men aware about the laws before marriage.
The International Men’s Day pamphlets were distributed along the way, and at various halt points in the journey. Many people were surprised to know that such a day even exists, and agreed that the International Men’s Day should also be celebrated with same gusto as Women’s Day and there shouldn’t be any bias in the society. Over 10,000 such pamphlets were distributed, and more will be distributed in all more major areas of Pune on 19th November.
The team then spent their time visiting the tourist places across Mahabaleshwar, and carried the banners of International Men’s Day wherever they went.
Of course it was not all serious business, the SIFF Pune Team enjoyed a delicious dinner and a fun stay at a resort at Mahabaleshwar. This was a fun weekend getaway, which helped spread the awareness about International Men’s Day, and unwind in a peaceful environment.
